In San Antonio, Texas, the 13-story Emily Morgan Hotel was originally built in 1926 as the Medical Arts Building. In operation for several years, the hospital eventually shut down and reopened in 1985 as the Morgan Hotel. Emily Morgan was the famous Yellow Rose of Texas, the slave mistress of Mexican general Santa Anna, reputed to have spied on him at a critical juncture in the Texan war of independence.

This Gothic Revival-style building includes terra cotta gargoyles above the ground floor, said to have been placed there to help the doctors ward off diseases.

The hotel overlooks The Alamo and is within walking distance of the San Antonio Riverwalk.
